New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah expressed that winning the PFA Player of the Year award feels extraordinary when paired with the coveted Premier League trophy.
Salah edged out teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, Chelsea's Cole Palmer, and Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice to claim this esteemed accolade. The Egyptian forward became the first player to win this award three times, having previously triumphed in 2017-18 and 2021-22.
“This remarkable award feels extraordinary when we have an important trophy to accompany it. Being champions is what truly counts, and we will strive to achieve it again this season. I am incredibly thankful to the players who supported me,” Salah shared on ‘X’.
The Egyptian international topped the vote of his peers from this year’s six-man shortlist, which included clubmate Mac Allister, marking the 10th time a Liverpool player has secured this distinguished honour.
During his tenure at Anfield, Salah has garnered seven major trophies, including medals in the Premier League and Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
Last season, the winger netted 34 goals and provided 23 assists across 52 appearances, breaking numerous records along the way. Since his transfer from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, he has solidified his status as a Liverpool legend, signing a new contract in April that will keep him at Anfield until 2027.
Salah was also named among five Liverpool players in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for 2024-25.
Virgil van Dijk, Milos Kerkez, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, and Salah made it to the annual XI, which is determined by votes from the nation’s professional players, announced at a ceremony in Manchester.
