Playing at the MCG is Always an Honor: Siddle on His BBL Deal with Stars

Melbourne, Dec 3 (NationPress) Former Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle has officially signed a one-year contract with the Big Bash League (BBL) team Melbourne Stars on Tuesday.

Even though he was one of the original players signed by the club in 2011, Siddle has never stepped onto the field for the Stars in a BBL match due to his international duties. Over the past nine seasons, he has participated in 83 BBL matches with the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Renegades.

Siddle had an impressive run with the Adelaide Strikers, where he solidified his reputation as a strong T20 bowler. He was instrumental in the team’s first BBL championship during the 2017-18 season, delivering a standout performance in the final against the Hobart Hurricanes, claiming figures of 3 for 17. After his stint with Adelaide, Siddle returned to the Melbourne Renegades last summer on a one-year contract.

“It’s wonderful to come back to the Stars after being part of its inception. Playing at the MCG is always a great honor, and I am excited to contribute in any way I can with this team,” Siddle remarked in an official statement.

“Bringing in someone with Peter’s experience for our final roster spot is excellent, not just for his capabilities on the field but also for his leadership qualities off it. What he can offer to the younger players is incredibly valuable,” said General Manager Blair Crouch. “As we’ve observed in the ongoing domestic season, Peter is still performing at an exceptionally high level, having taken 10 wickets in 5 One Day Cup appearances so far.”

The Stars have made noteworthy signings ahead of the 14th season of the Big Bash League, which includes English all-rounder Tom Curran and selecting Ben Duckett as their top draft pick. With Glenn Maxwell stepping down from the captaincy, Marcus Stoinis is anticipated to assume the leadership position.
