Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Melbourne, Jan 27 (NationPress) Australian cricket sensation Glenn Maxwell has officially extended his contract with the Melbourne Stars for an additional two years, as announced by the Big Bash League (BBL) team on Tuesday.
Since his debut with the Stars in BBL 2, Maxwell has participated in 123 matches, amassing a total of 3,193 runs, thereby cementing his status as one of the league's all-time greats.
This past season was challenging for the 37-year-old, who managed to score only 76 runs across eight innings and took two wickets.
Despite being out of contract at the conclusion of BBL|15, Maxwell expressed that it was a straightforward choice to continue donning the green jersey.
“The Melbourne Stars have played a pivotal role in my cricketing journey, and I am deeply invested in seeing this team thrive,” said Maxwell.
“I believe this current roster is on the verge of something remarkable, and I am optimistic that we can contend for the championship in the upcoming two seasons,” he added.
“We are excited about the direction our roster is taking for BBL 16. It felt like the team made significant progress this season, and we look forward to having that core group together again.
“Glenn has been among the elite T20 players globally for an extended period, and his dedication to the Stars is invaluable to us,” remarked Clint McKay, the T20 High Performance Manager for the Stars.
Additionally, the Stars have secured young talent Campbell Kellaway for another two years. The left-handed batsman featured in all 11 matches this season, providing a glimpse of a promising future for Stars supporters.
“Signing Campbell was equally crucial as he brings essential stability to our upper batting order.
“He demonstrated his capability at this level this season, and I am confident he will contribute significantly for us in the long term.
“We are also eager to witness further growth in Austin Anlezark’s game.
“He is a bright young prospect who will gain immensely from another year in our program.”
Before the opening of the BBL Player Movement Window on Wednesday, 20-year-old Austin Anlezark has also added another year to his contract with the Stars.
BBL clubs will have the opportunity to trade players and sign eligible free agents from January 28 to February 5.
