Maxwell Expresses Understanding on Test Exclusion from Sri Lanka Tour

New Delhi, Jan 13 (NationPress) Big-hitting all-rounder Glenn Maxwell mentioned he would have arrived at the same conclusion as the Australian selectors after being left out of the team for the forthcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka.
Maxwell, who has not participated in Test cricket since 2017, was not selected in Australia’s 16-member squad for the journey to Sri Lanka, as the selectors opted for uncapped all-rounder Cooper Connolly, a decision he expressed complete understanding of.
"It's just selection. There will always be individuals wishing to be included, and I made no secret of my strong desire to be on that tour, but I can fully grasp their rationale," Maxwell stated.
"Considering they are already in the World Test Championship final, they have a couple of Tests in Sri Lanka, and there will be several sub-continent tours in the upcoming years, they have the opportunity to evaluate some new players in those conditions."
"What a chance for those players to experience touring there - Cooper Connolly on his inaugural Test tour - I undoubtedly would have made the same choice as they did," Maxwell was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.
The seasoned all-rounder also indicated he was not prepared to make decisions regarding his Test career future after scoring 90 runs off 52 balls in the Melbourne Stars' BBL derby victory over the Melbourne Renegades. "I am not formulating any future plans right now; I’m looking forward to a week off and then Sunday (the Stars’ final home and away match)."
Discussing his explosive innings, Maxwell commented, “Not everything was coming off; I think I was probably connecting every second or third ball. Given how the wicket was playing, my aim was to pressure them enough to receive an overpitched delivery or a bit wider, allowing me to swing my bat or gain some leverage.”
“It still felt like I played and missed a fair amount; I felt I didn’t hit the middle of the bat regularly and had a few mistimed shots into the leg side. I think knowing how straightforward my game plan was, to stay on strike as long as possible, I just waited for one I could hit cleanly and hopefully connect.”
