Melbourne, May 20 (NationPress) Peter Moores has officially secured a two-year contract extension as the head coach of the Melbourne Stars, the club revealed on Tuesday. A former coach for England and possessing extensive coaching experience worldwide, Moores will remain in his position at least until the conclusion of BBL 16.
Since taking the helm in BBL 13, Moores has successfully guided the Stars to their first finals appearance in five years, achieving a remarkable five-game winning streak to conclude the regular season.
“I am absolutely delighted to commit for another two years. I've had some remarkable experiences with the club, and last summer at the MCG was an unforgettable time when we hit our stride. It truly showcased the incredible potential of this club, along with our devoted members and fans,” Moores expressed in a statement.
“I was very impressed with Marcus’ leadership last year, and I anticipate he will continue to excel in that role during BBL 15. Our roster is in excellent shape, and we have a wonderful chance to strengthen some key areas in the upcoming draft. I’m not setting limits on what we can achieve together,” Moores added.
Melbourne Stars General Manager Max Abbott stated that Moores is the ideal leader to guide the Stars into the future.
“The feedback from all sections of the organization has been overwhelmingly positive regarding Peter's leadership over the past two seasons. You don’t recover from a 0-5 start to reach the finals without strong leadership in the dressing room, which is a testament to how Peter maintained camaraderie and belief within the team to turn the season around,” he noted.
“Peter is a world-class coach, and by ensuring continuity, we are confident the club can build on the momentum gained in the latter half of the season to kick off BBL 15 with a strong start,” Abbott concluded.
