New Delhi, Aug 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the significance of sports in the evolution of India during his Independence Day address on Friday. He mentioned that the newly ratified National Sports Policy 2025 aims to enhance sports in remote regions.
During his speech, PM Modi reflected on a time when parents were reluctant to allow their children to pursue sports seriously, a mindset that has experienced a remarkable transformation.
"Sports play a vital role in progress. Previously, parents did not encourage their children to dedicate time to sports, but today, the situation has changed. Now, when children show enthusiasm and excel in sports, parents beam with pride. Witnessing a supportive atmosphere for sports in families fills my heart with joy. This is a promising indication for our nation's future," PM Modi articulated during his address at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.
On July 1, the Union Cabinet led by PM Modi endorsed the National Sports Policy (NSP) 2025, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the nation's sporting framework and empowering citizens through sports.
"To advance sports, we have launched a Sports Policy after many decades, targeting the comprehensive development of the sports sector. Our vision encompasses all levels, from schools to the Olympics, aiming to establish a holistic ecosystem—whether it’s about providing quality coaching, promoting fitness, developing playgrounds, building robust sports infrastructure, or ensuring the availability of essential resources.
"We also strive to assist small-scale industries in manufacturing sports equipment. Through these initiatives, we aspire to ensure that this entire ecosystem fosters sports in remote areas," PM added.
On August 12, the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill 2025 were ratified by Parliament.
A significant aspect of the National Sports Bill is the Safe Sport Policy, which mandates the implementation of athlete protection frameworks, grievance redressal systems, and safeguards against harassment, particularly for women, divyang individuals, and minors.
