Ponting Commends Arshdeep's Resilient Bowling Performance After Hard Work Pays Off
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Mumbai, April 17 (NationPress) The head coach of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Ricky Ponting, has showered accolades on fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, whose exceptional bowling performance was pivotal in securing a commanding 7-wicket victory against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the renowned Wankhede Stadium.
After facing challenges in taking wickets early in the season, Arshdeep made a notable comeback by claiming three wickets while conceding only 22 runs in his four overs against Mumbai. Following the match, Ponting acknowledged Arshdeep's dedication and hard work towards the team.
"What everyone should understand about Arshdeep is his passion for training. He puts in tremendous effort during practice. Just yesterday, he shared with me a video of his 20-minute bowling session, which actually lasted closer to 30 or 40 minutes. He focused on target bowling to refine his approach before today's game," Ponting stated in a video shared by IPL on X.
"This clearly illustrates that when one invests effort, rewards follow. We certainly reaped the benefits tonight. It's gratifying for the coaching staff to see our players gain confidence when we allow them to prepare in their own style," he added.
Ponting further lauded the team's environment, which facilitated Arshdeep's mental readiness to rebound after a lackluster start to the season.
"We consistently support our players, irrespective of their current form. In this Punjab team, we have cultivated a stable squad," he remarked.
"We stand by them, even if they encounter two or three poor performances in a row. The atmosphere we foster is all about trust and standing by each other when it counts. Arshdeep has undoubtedly exemplified this for us this week," he said.
In the match, despite Quinton De Kock scoring a century, the Mumbai Indians fell short of the 200-run target, managing only 196 runs due to Arshdeep's outstanding spell. The Punjab Kings chased down the target comfortably in just 16.3 overs.
