New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Fast bowler Arshdeep Singh of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) expressed that after completing his initial year with the franchise, he felt a deep sense of having been entrusted with a significant responsibility, which has positively influenced his development as both a player and an individual.
Having joined PBKS prior to the 2019 IPL season, Arshdeep has become a vital component of the team, amassing 84 wickets in 71 matches at an average of 26.82 and an economy rate of 9.
"From the moment I joined Punjab Kings, apart from my rookie year, I began to sense a seniority within my role. I have been with this team for the past seven years, and after my first season, I felt that I was entrusted with a substantial role in the team. This experience has fostered my growth as a player and person," Arshdeep stated in a video released by the franchise on YouTube on Thursday.
Arshdeep's notable IPL season unfolded in 2021, where he secured 18 wickets across 12 matches. In 2022, he took 10 wickets, including a critical performance in a Super Over against the Mumbai Indians, which helped him secure a spot in the India T20I team. He was part of the squad that triumphed in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup and received the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award.
He elaborated on how this sense of seniority influenced his gameplay, particularly in high-stakes situations. "The advancement in my role and growth came quite early, leading me to realize the importance of not faltering during critical moments, as deviating from the plan could jeopardize the team. Thus, I became serious and started embracing my senior role much earlier than expected."
He concluded by sharing his perspective on dealing with online criticism. "Throughout my career, I've experienced both peaks and valleys in a brief time. However, I find amusement in these trolls.
"I enjoy their creativity and humor. In the past, I used to save their memes and messages for future reference, but I’ve come to understand they hold little value. Nonetheless, I still appreciate the creativity of people." PBKS will next compete against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday.
