Pranavi Urs Advances in Joburg Ladies Open; Tvesa and Diksha Fall Short
Key Takeaways
Johannesburg, April 18 (NationPress) Pranavi Urs emerged as the sole Indian golfer to progress to the weekend rounds of the Joburg Ladies Open, successfully making the cut at Randpark Golf Club on Saturday.
Following a strong opening round with a score of 3-under 70, she recorded a 1-over 74 in her second round, finishing precisely on the cutline. Despite a nail-biting conclusion, Pranavi held her ground, concluding the day tied for 52nd position.
Her second round showcased a mix of performance. Starting off consistently, she was 1-under at the halfway mark, but faced challenges later on, with four bogeys countered by only two birdies. A bogey on her last hole, the ninth, cast doubt on her advancement, yet she managed to qualify by the slimmest of margins.
The other Indian competitors were unable to make it past the cut. Both Tvesa Malik and Diksha Dagar missed out by a single stroke, with scores of 72 and 73, respectively. Avani Prashanth (75-74) and Hitaashee Bakshi (77-74) trailed further behind, missing the cut by larger margins.
At the top of the leaderboard, Celine Herbin from France and America's Brianna Navarrosa shared the lead after two rounds, each at 11-under par. Weather interruptions impacted the tournament, leading to a suspension of play due to darkness, with 15 players needing to finish their rounds the next morning.
Herbin took advantage of the favourable morning conditions, posting an impressive 6-under 67. The seasoned French golfer, a two-time Ladies European Tour champion, began her round with five birdies in the opening seven holes. She maintained her strong performance with additional birdies on the 14th and 18th holes, setting a high benchmark for the tournament.
In third place, Camille Chevalier from France stood at 10-under par, delivering a remarkable bogey-free round of 7-under 66—one of the standout performances of the event so far.
