Neal Graham, the development manager for the Middle East, Central Asia, and India at The R&A, praised the IGU for successfully hosting the event, stating, “The Golf Sixes League is a proven development initiative that invites new golfers into the sport in an enjoyable and competitive atmosphere. It enables young individuals to transfer their newly acquired skills from the lesson tee to the course within a supportive and inclusive team environment. We aspire that the introduction of the Golf Sixes League in India by the Indian Golf Union will yield similar outcomes for golf participation in the country as observed in the British Isles, Europe, and Africa.”
The Golf Sixes League, a pioneering initiative designed to introduce new junior golfers to the game, took place for the first time in India during the USD 2.25 million Hero Indian Open sanctioned by the DP World Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).
The event aimed to spark enthusiasm among young golfers while providing children a unique platform to showcase their talents in an engaging team format. Notably, the Golf Sixes League format has been crafted by The R&A, the Confederation of Professional Golf (CPG), the Ryder Cup European Development Trust (RCEDT), DP World Tour, and Ladies European Tour.
Brijinder Singh, president of the IGU, expressed his excitement and support for the Golf Sixes League, stating, “This initiative aligns seamlessly with our objectives of promoting golf and enhancing inclusivity. The Golf Sixes format is fast-paced and dynamic, featuring teams of six players competing in six-hole matches. It is designed to be fun, interactive, and easy to grasp, making it ideal for children and novices.”
“We are delighted to support the Golf Sixes League and are eager to observe its influence on expanding the game of golf in India,” he added.
