Hong Kong, May 29 (NationPress) Delhi's own Ranveer Mitroo delivered another stellar performance with a second successive card of two-under 69, propelling India to a tied second place in the boys’ team competition alongside teammate Krish Chawla during the second round of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship at the Hong Kong Golf Club.
With a total score of one-under 283, the Indian duo trails the leaders, Parin Sarasmut and Warut Boonrod from Thailand, by six strokes. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has fielded a four-member team for this prestigious event organized by APGC.
Individually, Ranveer holds onto his fourth spot in the boys' individual competition while Krish climbed from a tied 16th position to finish the second round in 15th place with a score of three-over 145. Thailand’s Parin Sarasmut shot a remarkable five-under 66 to share the lead with Tuan Anh Nguyen of Vietnam, both sitting at eight-under 134.
Ranveer's journey included five straight pars before he made a birdie at the sixth hole from five feet, despite his approach landing short of the flag. The 16-year-old faced a setback with a bogey on the next hole, but quickly rebounded with back-to-back birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. On the back nine, he secured birdies on holes 14, 17, and 18, although he encountered a double bogey on the 10th and another bogey on the 12th.
Reflecting on his performance, Ranveer remarked, “Round 2 was great but I made a lot of mistakes. I made six birdies, one double bogey, and two bogeys. I shot another 69 (-2) and currently sit in fourth place among 32 amateurs after two rounds. My tee shots and approaches were decent, with good putting and chipping, but I missed too many close-range opportunities today.”
In the individual girls' competition, Saanvi Somu recorded a three-under 69 to rise to joint ninth place, while compatriot Kashika Mishra struggled with a 10-over 82 due to a bout of viral fever.
The Indian duo of Kashika and Saanvi is currently placed seventh with a combined score of 11-over 299 after Round 2. In the mixed team event, the Indian pair of Krish and Saanvi ranks tied in 10th position at five-over 289.
