Ludhiana, March 27 (NationPress) Wasim Khan of Delhi delivered an impressive final round score of four-under 67, bringing his total to 10-under 203 for the tournament, thereby clinching his first title at the PGTI NexGen’s Phillaur Open held at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club in Phillaur, Punjab. Rajesh Kumar Gautam from Lucknow (68) and Chandarjeet Yadav from Chandimandir (69) finished as joint runners-up with a total of eight-under 205.

Kurush Heerjee (71) from Jamshedpur, who was the overnight leader, concluded the tournament in a tied fourth position at seven-under 206, alongside Brashwarpal Singh from Chandigarh (69).

The 34-year-old Wasim Khan (67-69-67), who was tied for third and just one stroke off the lead overnight, showcased his skills on the final day by scoring seven birdies, alongside one bogey and a double-bogey during his round of 67.

Wasim’s iron play stood out as he positioned his shots within three feet of the pin for three of his birdies. His consistency with the putter was evident as he made three birdies from distances ranging between 10 to 12 feet.

Despite suffering a couple of wayward tee shots on the 15th and 16th holes that cost him three strokes, he concluded the tournament strongly with a birdie on the 17th and a vital par on the 18th. Khan earned a winner's cheque of Rs 2,54,300, propelling him from 11th to 2nd in the 2025 PGTI NexGen Order of Merit. His season's total earnings now stand at Rs 3,54,600.

Rajesh Kumar Gautam, having secured a win in Gurugram and finishing second this week in Phillaur, now leads the NexGen Order of Merit with season earnings of Rs 4,29,600.

Wasim expressed his joy, stating, “I’m thrilled to achieve my first professional victory. I came very close before with two runner-up finishes on the PGTI Feeder Tour back in 2019. I’m grateful to have closed the deal this time.”

“My performance has been solid since last week’s event in Kapurthala. I decided to maintain the same strategy this week, focusing on hitting as many fairways and greens as possible. The guidance from my mentor, Shamim Khan, significantly contributed to my success,” he added.
