Phillaur (Punjab), March 26 (NationPress) Jamshedpur’s Kurush Heerjee and Chandigarh golfer Manjot Singh are tied for the lead with an impressive score of seven-under 135 following Round Two of the PGTI NexGen Phillaur Open at the Ranjitgarh Golf Club in Phillaur, Punjab, on Wednesday.
In a close contest, Chandarjeet Yadav (64) from Chandimandir, Amrit Lal (66) of Chandigarh, and Wasim Khan (69) from Delhi are all tied for third place at six-under 136.
The cut was set at three-over 145, allowing the top 37 professionals to advance to the final round.
Kurush Heerjee (68-67) showcased his skills with six birdies and two bogeys during his rounds. He executed remarkable wedge shots, landing the ball within four feet on three occasions, resulting in two birdies and a par. The 29-year-old golfer also nailed two exceptional bunker shots for further birdies.
On the back nine, Kurush excelled with his putter, sinking a 50-footer and a 20-footer for birdies, propelling him five spots up from his previous tied sixth position.
“I played decent golf, got the basics right, and minimized mistakes in the first two NEXGEN events, but my scores didn’t reflect that. This week, I committed to focusing on one shot at a time, and it has worked well for me here in Phillaur. Today, my wedge shots were excellent,” stated Kurush.
The 19-year-old Manjot Singh (66-69) maintained his position at the top with an eagle, three birdies, and three bogeys.
Unfortunately, both local professionals, Swatanter Kumar and Amit Kumar, did not make the cut.
The Phillaur Open is the third event in the NexGen Championship, which provides the overall winner with a spot on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) for the season. This initiative by the PGTI is designed for golfers ranked below 60 in last year's order of merit.
