Naya Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Feb 25 (NationPress) Bengaluru’s Shaurya Binu delivered an impressive nine-under 60, securing the first-round lead in the inaugural competitive round of the INR 1 crore Chhattisgarh Open 2025 at the stunning Fairway Golf & Lake Resort on Tuesday. The opening day showcased golfers achieving remarkable scores in this first PGTI event hosted in Chhattisgarh.
The Delhi-based pair of Harshjeet Singh Sethie and Honey Baisoya, along with Mani Ram from Karnal, also recorded impressive scores of eight-under 61, placing them in a three-way tie for second.
Shaurya Binu, a two-time PGTI champion last season, kicked off the day positively with three birdies in the first five holes, sinking putts from distances ranging from 10 to 20 feet. The only hiccup in his round was a bogey on the sixth hole due to a three-putt.
The 20-year-old golfer rebounded strongly, achieving two birdies and an eagle in the subsequent three holes, with impressive conversions from 10 to 15 feet. He then surged ahead, gaining three additional strokes on the back-nine thanks to superb wedge shots and an astonishing 35-feet conversion on the 17th.
Shaurya expressed, “I truly enjoyed my first experience at the Fairway Golf & Lake Resort. The greens are rolling well and are in excellent condition. I was eager to start strong this week since I missed the cut in the first two events of the season. I focused on my swing and rhythm, aiming to maintain the same tempo, and I executed that well today.
“After the practice round, I recognized that one can easily miss to the right on this course, so I planned accordingly for the tournament. Although it’s a shorter course, it presents a variety of challenges, including playing some of the Par-3s against the wind while targeting the relatively smaller greens. Hazards and out-of-bounds come into play on most holes.”
Harshjeet Singh Sethie, a PGTI winner in 2023, made two chip-ins and successfully rolled in several putts from 30 to 50 feet during his remarkable round of 61.
Honey Baisoya kicked off his round of 61 with birdies on his first five holes, securing a tie for second place. Mani Ram also recorded a bogey-free 61 to join the second-place tie.
Among other notable competitors, Udayan Mane (63) was tied for seventh, Om Prakash Chouhan (66) was tied for 34th, Manu Gandas (67) was tied for 48th, Aman Raj (69) was tied for 79th, and Rashid Khan (70) was tied for 95th.
