Kolkata, March 23 (NationPress) Following a seven-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the inaugural match of IPL 2025 at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane is optimistic that the experienced, formidable, and explosive batting lineup will recover from this defeat.

Rahane showcased his skills with a brilliant 56 runs off 31 balls, propelling his team to a vigorous start. However, Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma dismantled KKR's renowned middle order, restricting them to 174/8, despite the potential for a score exceeding 230.

"The players in our middle order are experienced, formidable, and explosive. They have faced numerous challenges like this before. It’s crucial to give them the freedom to play their game," Rahane stated during the post-match press conference.

“When it goes well, it’s impressive. It didn’t go our way today, and that’s part of the game. This is a long tournament, and we will support every individual,” he added.

Discussing his batting performance, the seasoned player remarked, “For me, contributing to the team is paramount. Every run I score is for the team, and that’s what truly matters. I would rather score runs and achieve victory.”

Rahane also commented on the opening combination for KKR, mentioning, “We possess batsmen who are eager to attack the bowlers. Quinton de Kock has been a dangerous player in this format and has made significant contributions at the top. Sunil Narine had a stellar season and continues to perform well. As a team, we believe that de Kock and Narine can form a formidable opening partnership.”

The Kolkata Knight Riders aim to recover as they prepare to face Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday.
