L Balaji Urges KKR's Top Order to Shine in IPL 2026
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 approaches, former Indian fast bowler Lakshmipathy Balaji has emphasized the crucial need for the Kolkata Knight Riders to have a strong performance from their top order if they wish to compete for the championship.
With significant player departures following the 2025 season, KKR’s batting lineup is under intense scrutiny. Balaji argues that the onus will primarily be on captain Ajinkya Rahane, Cameron Green, and the foreign openers to deliver results.
Balaji proposed a revised batting order to unlock KKR's full potential. He remarked, “I believe that KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane should occupy a top-order position. He should bat no lower than number three, as he has excelled at that position with CSK, amassing impressive runs. Therefore, having him bat at number three would benefit both him and KKR. Cameron Green can slot in at number four, allowing him time to acclimate before targeting the bowlers. A top four comprising Finn Allen, Tim Seifert, Ajinkya Rahane, and Cameron Green could be the ideal setup,” he shared with JioStar.
Furthermore, the former cricketer underscored the immediate need for KKR’s top order to find their form early in the season. “KKR’s top order must perform. Last season, they fell short after losing players like Phil Salt and Shreyas Iyer, who were instrumental in their 2024 title win. It’s time for others to step up—perhaps Cameron Green or Finn Allen. Additionally, young talent like Angkrish Raghuvanshi is ready to make an impact. If they excel, KKR can gain significant momentum, making their performance a key focus this season,” he added.
The much-anticipated 19th season of this lucrative tournament is set to kick off on March 28, with KKR poised to face the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their second match at the renowned Wankhede Stadium.
