Kolkata, April 19 (NationPress) Kolkata Knight Riders' captain Ajinkya Rahane shared his relief and satisfaction after the team secured their first victory in IPL 2026. He praised the collective effort while highlighting the contributions of Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakravarthy during a nail-biting match.

“It feels great. There were a lot of emotions during the game, but I'm particularly thrilled for Rinku Singh, Anukul Roy, and Varun Chakravarthy. Varun was having a rough patch, but he bowled excellently in the last three games,” Rahane commented post-match.

He noted the significance of Rinku and Varun overcoming challenging phases, enhancing their contributions in this crucial win.

“Rinku Singh has been battling mental challenges, and I'm really glad to see him finish the match successfully. Anukul Roy enjoyed a stellar domestic season and is quite confident. Though he couldn’t bowl today due to the batting combination, I’m pleased with how they both formed a strong partnership,” Rahane remarked.

The KKR leader elaborated on his leadership philosophy, focusing on personal interactions and a straightforward approach.

“In our practice sessions, I prefer having individual conversations instead of group discussions. The coaches also engage with the players. It's all about understanding the situation well. Cricket should be kept simple; overthinking can lead to complications,” he stated.

Rahane views this victory as a potential turning point for the team, especially with noticeable improvements in their bowling department.

“This win should boost our confidence as a team, especially with how well our bowlers have been performing together in recent matches. While there are still batting aspects to refine, there’s plenty of positivity to take from this game,” he added.

He also commended the young pacer Kartik Tyagi for his impressive clarity and execution.

“He has been remarkable since our practice games. His understanding of what he wants to achieve on the field is commendable. As a captain, it’s encouraging to have someone like him who knows how to handle various situations. His bowling in crucial overs has been exceptional,” Rahane noted regarding Tyagi’s three-wicket haul.

Discussing the batting strategy, Rahane underscored the necessity for enhanced awareness and flexibility, particularly after a series of poor powerplay performances.

“There’s much to learn from each game. We’ve had a rough powerplay in the last three matches, but that’s where our cricketing awareness must improve. Sometimes, I think the emphasis on strike rate is misplaced. On such pitches, focusing on singles and maintaining intent is crucial rather than just hitting sixes,” the captain explained.

Despite acknowledging the tense moments that accompanied the win, Rahane described it as a timely wake-up call for the batting lineup, remarking, “If we enhance our cricketing awareness and prolong the game, we can achieve better results. The recent games had their challenges, but today’s partnership between Rinku and Anukul was significant.”

Looking forward, Rahane stressed the importance of self-reflection and open communication within the group.

“Fortunately, we have five or six extra days before the next match to reflect and learn from our mistakes, as cricket offers only a limited number of opportunities. Tonight's match was crucial for team unity and honest dialogue,” he expressed.

“Overall, our preparation, the players' attitude, and the atmosphere in the dressing room have been excellent. However, it’s the simple things that cricket demands that we must deliver,” the 37-year-old concluded.
