New Delhi, May 18 (NationPress) Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen expressed that KL Rahul delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 112 not out off 65 balls during the IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans. He noted that Rahul's desire to bat at the top of the order makes it a true delight to watch him when he's in peak form.
At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Rahul reached his century in just 60 balls with a powerful pull shot off Prasidh Krishna in the 19th over. This marked his fifth IPL century and his first for DC, filled with 14 fours and four sixes. Notably, Rahul became the first player in IPL history to score centuries across three different teams, having previously achieved this with Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants.
"Watching the boys in such pressure situations is challenging, particularly after a decent start that turned wobbly. However, the break seemed beneficial. KL was eager to bat at the top, and he is a joy to watch when in rhythm. Observing players of his caliber during practice and then seeing them shine in matches is wonderful," Pietersen remarked during a mid-innings interview with broadcasters.
Currently, Rahul stands as DC’s leading run-scorer in IPL 2025 with 495 runs and ranks fourth in all-time hundreds in the tournament, following Virat Kohli, Jos Buttler, and Chris Gayle. His outstanding performance also made him the fastest Indian and the third overall player to reach 8,000 runs in T20 cricket. With Rahul's efforts, DC posted 199/3, and Pietersen emphasized the need to defend this total against a strong GT batting lineup.
"We've only completed half the task. The top three batters for Gujarat Titans have performed admirably. However, we have Mustafizur, who joined us this morning, and T Natarajan returning from injury. We discussed the importance of a strong start; our last few overs were inadequate, but we solidified during the middle and finished strongly. I believe 200 is a competitive target," he concluded.
