Chennai, April 5 (NationPress) KL Rahul, who scored an impressive 77 runs to lead Delhi Capitals to a 25-run victory against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025, expressed his satisfaction with the opportunity to open the batting. He attributed his success to the mental preparation that has enabled him to adapt to various batting positions.

Rahul took the reins as opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium due to Faf du Plessis's absence. He started with 25 off 20 balls but quickly accelerated, scoring 36 runs off just 18 balls, ultimately finishing with 77 runs off 51 balls, including six fours and three sixes. This performance led DC to a total of 183/6, securing their win in Chennai after 15 years.

"It’s just how it has been. I am accustomed to this role. I was preparing to open before the IPL began. A discussion with the coach suggested I bat at number four due to a teammate's absence (Harry Brook), but I was pleased to seize this opportunity at the top of the order today,” said Rahul.

“The key is mental preparation, and understanding the rhythm of entering the game at specific moments. I prefer consistency in my approach. Transitioning up and down the order requires a brief adjustment period. This is a skill I am honing to minimize those initial balls,” he added post-match.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Abishek Porel, who scored a rapid 33 during their second-wicket partnership of 54. "I started strong, but there were moments in the middle when it felt a bit tough. Porel's quick 20-25 runs were crucial in setting the tone for the match,” he commented.

Rahul noted, "I’ve had partnerships with Axar and Abishek Porel, hitting some boundaries early in the power-play. Unfortunately, I lost wickets at critical times when I wanted to accelerate. The heat and humidity took a toll on me towards the end; I felt exhausted."

Axar Patel, the captain of DC, expressed his pleasure with the team's third consecutive win but emphasized the need for improved fielding. "Winning three matches in a row is fantastic. We aim to make an impact, whether minor or major. Our plan has been effective so far,” he stated.

“Everything is functioning smoothly. However, as captain, I must mention our fielding needs to improve, particularly with dropped catches. The momentum can shift rapidly. I was cautious with my bowling (only one over) due to a finger injury,” he added.

Mitchell Starc, who finished with figures of 1-27, praised his team for their ability to adapt to the challenging conditions in Chennai. "I'm very pleased with our performance today. The batting unit adjusted superbly to the conditions,” he remarked.

“Our spinners and bowling lineup performed excellently throughout the match. Everyone adapted well to the situation with both bat and ball. All bowlers made necessary adjustments. Everyone knows what’s coming (the yorker), and you can prepare to stay ahead,” he concluded.

With DC currently at the top of the points table, they are set to face Royal Challengers Bengaluru, led by Rajat Patidar, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
