Madrid, Feb 18 (NationPress) Real Madrid and Manchester City, two iconic football clubs known for their thrilling matchups in recent years, are set to clash once more in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League knockout stage on Thursday (IST). The reigning champions enter this match with a slim 3-2 lead after a dramatic victory at the Etihad Stadium last week. Federico Valverde, the Uruguayan midfielder, expressed that the team aspires to create a ‘special night’ at the Bernabeu as the two powerhouses meet again.

“Currently, we feel a bit more at ease regarding the situation, but we must remain focused and strong. We should strive to have a beautiful night. Our goal is to create a night that every Real Madrid fan will remember,” Valverde stated.

“Our aim is to get closer to the most prestigious title in football. We all desire to win it, and we must work collectively – the supporters and the team – moving in the same direction,” he added.

Despite controlling much of the first leg, Manchester City was stunned by two late goals from Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham.

Real Madrid enters the match following a 1-1 draw against Osasuna, during which the club voiced their frustration over refereeing decisions, particularly after Jude Bellingham received a red card for allegedly using foul language towards the referee.

This controversial red card has sparked significant debate, as Real Madrid feels aggrieved by recent officiating in La Liga, a sentiment they have expressed openly.

Valverde, however, defended Bellingham, stating that he plays with immense passion for the team, emphasizing the need for unity within the squad. “What I desire is for players to give their all on the pitch, as Jude did in the last match. He is a player with great character, always eager to win and fight. Although he received a red card this time, I appreciate his determination and tenacity. We must stay united as a team,” he remarked.
