Manchester, April 18 (NationPress) Pep Guardiola asserts that there is absolutely nothing wrong with striving hard for UEFA Champions League qualification. After observing the quarter-finals of the prestigious European tournament, he feels an enhanced motivation to guide City towards earning a spot in next season’s competition.

Guardiola has kept a close eye on this elite European competition since the Blues faced elimination in the knockout phase by Real Madrid.

“I truly enjoy the matches. They have been exciting encounters; Tuesday’s game at Villa Park was remarkable. The clash between Dortmund and Barcelona was also thrilling. I’ve loved watching them, and of course, I miss being part of it. However, I’m not one to complain about what life offers, whether in times of success or adversity,” he stated.

“This is the nature of sports; at times, you may not perform at your best and may not deserve to be in contention. I hope that next season we can compete alongside the top clubs in Europe and perform even better than we did this season,” he added.

“We aim to challenge these clubs as we have consistently done over the past seven years. Even when we’ve been knocked out, we’ve still competed well, and we will continue in that manner. It’s a source of motivation. It’s not a negative thing to strive for Champions League qualification,” Guardiola emphasized during the pre-match press conference.

City has secured the Premier League title for the past four seasons, a remarkable feat, but this year they are striving to secure a top-five finish to guarantee a Champions League spot.

Instead of lamenting their current circumstances, Guardiola is embracing the competition, stating that their position in the table could have been significantly worse without their recent revival.

“We could be much lower in the Premier League standings if we hadn’t performed well over the last four to five months. People mention that we are fifth now, but we could very well be in 11th, 12th, 13th, or 14th place. I have no doubts about that. While we haven’t been at our best, the situation is still within our control,” he remarked.

Currently, Man City sits in fifth place in the Premier League and will face Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday. They are just two points behind Nottingham Forest while maintaining a one-point lead over Chelsea.
