Patna, April 22 (NationPress) In light of the backlash against Rahul Gandhi’s comments regarding the Election Commission during his trip to the United States, Purnea MP Rajesh Ranjan, also known as Pappu Yadav, has vocally defended the Congress leader, asserting that his remarks are well within his constitutional right to free speech.

“He simply shared his viewpoint on EVMs and the Election Commission -- a discussion that is not new in India. When Prime Minister Modi criticized the value of the rupee during a visit to the US, there was no backlash,” Yadav stated.

He accused the BJP of hypocrisy, claiming they selectively target opposition figures while making disparaging comments about institutions like the Supreme Court.

Pointing to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s recent remarks about the Chief Justice of India, Yadav remarked, “It’s unprecedented for someone to say the CJI will fracture the nation. BJP leaders vilify the judiciary while presenting themselves as guardians of the Constitution. As MPs, we hold the power to legislate -- however, the judiciary has the authority to review those laws.”

Yadav further criticized the BJP for consistently invoking Jawaharlal Nehru and Rahul Gandhi in political discussions, accusing the party of leveraging Hindu-Muslim narratives to distract from pressing issues like unemployment, inflation, and inadequate economic policies.

Regarding the low attendance at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally in Buxar, he attributed it to extreme heat, asserting that large gatherings are not occurring for any political faction -- not even for Prime Minister Modi’s forthcoming rally in Madhubani on April 24.

“Let’s see what kind of turnout PM Modi gets in Madhubani. We expect him to clarify -- what has happened to the sugar mills in North Bihar, the Darbhanga paper mill, or the milk factory in Madhepura? Are there plans to reopen these establishments?” he questioned.

When asked about seat-sharing and leadership within the INDIA bloc, Yadav replied, “Why is there so much focus on our internal affairs? We are aware of who our leaders are. The Chief Minister will be determined post-elections.”

He also took a dig at NDA leadership, stating, “Without Nitish Kumar, the BJP lacks a foothold in Bihar. Balasaheb Thackeray was instrumental in establishing the BJP in Maharashtra, yet they have betrayed leaders like Uddhav Thackeray, Mehbooba Mufti, and Eknath Shinde. They will inevitably do the same to Nitish Kumar.

Reaffirming his commitment to social justice, Yadav expressed strong support for appointing a Chief Minister from SC/ST/OBC/EBC backgrounds. “There will be no CM in Bihar other than from the SC/ST/OBC/EBC categories. That is our unequivocal stance,” he declared.
