Madrid, Oct 20 (NationPress) Real Madrid continues to hold the top position in La Liga after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Getafe, thanks to a goal from Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe netted the decisive goal in the 80th minute, marking his 10th goal of the season. The challenge for Real Madrid was eased when Getafe defender Allan Nyom received a red card for a reckless challenge on the French forward just minutes after entering the game as a substitute.

Things went from bad to worse for Getafe when Alex Sancris was also sent off in the 84th minute after a ludicrous foul on Vinicius Jr, as reported by Xinhua.

Earlier on Sunday, Elche and Athletic Club played to a 0-0 draw, with Elche maintaining their unbeaten home streak. However, Eder Sarabia's squad was left frustrated after missing several good chances that were thwarted by Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Three goals in just 10 minutes from Mallorca stunned Sevilla, who initially looked set to claim a third consecutive win with Ruben Vargas' first-half opener. Vedat Muriqi equalized in the 67th minute, followed by quick goals from Mateo Joseph that sealed an unexpected win for Mallorca.

Luis Carrion's return as the coach of Oviedo began poorly, as second-half goals from Kike Garcia and Pere Milla resulted in a 2-0 defeat at home to Espanyol.

During the weekend, players across all matches stood still for 15 seconds in protest against La Liga's plans to hold the match between Villarreal and FC Barcelona in Miami.
