Madrid, July 9 (NationPress) – India’s Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha Vennam showcased their skills at the final stage of the Archery World Cup by setting a remarkable new world record for the Compound Mixed Team during the qualification round.
The talented pair achieved a total score of 1431 (with 70 Xs), surpassing the previous mixed team record of 1429, which was held by Denmark's Tanja Gellenthien and Mathias Fullerton from the Krakow-Malopolska 2023 European Games.
“This is significant for us since the mixed team event has just been added to the Olympics, and it highlights our gradual progress,” stated 22-year-old Rishabh in a quote reported by World Archery.
“We started the season strong with a gold medal in the mixed team event (Florida 2025), but we didn’t compete together in the following two stages. Now, returning for the fourth stage, we both performed well, and it’s exciting to see our consistency,” he added.
In addition, Rishabh and Jyothi excelled in the individual qualifications, earning the top rankings in both individual and team categories.
Rishabh dominated the competition, maintaining the lead among 85 participants at the Vallehermoso Stadium and aiming to break Braden Gellenthien’s individual compound men's world record by scoring a perfect 300 in 30 arrows.
Although he scored 68 out of 72 arrows in the 10-ring (with 35 Xs), which is an impressive feat, his score of 716 became a new personal best for the Shanghai 2025 – stage two bronze medalist.
Other Indian competitors included Priyansh (scoring 710) and Aman Saini (scoring 709), who ranked 10th and 11th overall, respectively.
In the women’s compound event, Asian Games champion Jyothi also achieved an international personal best with a score of 715 (with 35 Xs), securing the top seed in her category.
“I’ve been performing well this year, but I felt there was still more to achieve. However, today, from my morning practice, I sensed a strong connection with my shooting and aimed to replicate that in the qualifications,” shared Jyothi, who did not compete in the prior three World Cups this year.
Parneet Kaur (scoring 702) and 16-year-old newcomer Prithika Pradeep (scoring 699) finished in seventh and tenth places, respectively, contributing to India's top ranking in the women’s team event with a total score of 2116, ahead of Mexico (with 2108) and South Korea (with 2095).
