Lahore, May 22 (NationPress) The talented Bangladeshi spinner Rishad Hossain has made his way back to the Lahore Qalandars team just in time for their crucial eliminator match against the Karachi Kings in the PSL, set to take place this Thursday in Lahore.
On Wednesday, Rishad was busy in Sharjah where he participated in the final T20I of the Bangladesh-UAE series, having played in two out of three matches as UAE triumphed in the series 2-1.
Earlier this month, he was among several foreign players who briefly left Pakistan when the PSL faced suspension due to escalating border tensions.
His return adds to the Qalandars' arsenal, featuring a trio of Bangladeshi spinners, including Shakib Al Hasan—who has appeared in one match—and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who joined the team recently.
This season, Rishad has participated in five matches for the Qalandars, claiming nine wickets at an average of 16.44, although he faced challenges during the UAE series, securing only three wickets at a hefty cost.
The Qalandars now confront some difficult selection choices, particularly within their bowling lineup, which boasts a variety of talent. While Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf spearhead the pace department, the competition for the three spinner spots will be intriguing.
Rishad is set to contribute for the remainder of the Qalandars’ PSL journey, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has granted an extension for his No Objection Certificate (NOC) from May 22 to May 25. Bangladesh will kick off their T20I series against Pakistan on May 28 in Lahore, just as the PSL final is scheduled for May 25.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana and two pivotal coaching staff members opted out of the forthcoming T20I tour against Pakistan, citing security issues, only days prior to the squad's departure.
The BCB has announced that fielding coach James Pamment and strength and conditioning coach Nathan Kiely will not accompany the team as they gear up for a three-match series in Lahore on May 28, 30, and 31.
