Dhaka, Nov 4 (NationPress) The spin bowling coach of Bangladesh, Mushtaq Ahmed, emphasized that the country's top leg-spinner, Rishad Hossain, should concentrate on mastering essential variations such as the flipper, top-spin, and slider to enhance his performance.
Mushtaq commended Rishad's development in leg-spin and googly, alongside his improving all-round abilities. He insisted that honing these additional deliveries will transform him into a more well-rounded bowler.
The former cricket star concluded a two-day spin bowling workshop at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, collaborating with twelve budding spinners as part of Bangladesh's ongoing initiative to bolster its spin bowling capabilities.
"Rishad is performing exceptionally and is taking numerous wickets for Bangladesh. Now, he has become a role model for many - in batting, bowling, and fielding," Mushtaq informed the press after the camp.
"He has already refined his leg break and googly, and the next phase in his growth is to perfect the flipper, top spinner, and slider," he added.
"Rishad is learning the googly, and mastering it is quite an art. He is making strides with the googly, leg break, and flipper. These elements are crucial. However, it is vital for Rishad to have a solid foundation. When the basics are correct, he can effectively deliver all variations," he noted, emphasizing that Rishad also needs to understand how to impart spin on the ball, which is essential for success at the international level.
"When spinners get ample spin from pitches, they often overlook the process and foundational skills. As coaches, we are making significant efforts to instill the importance of these fundamentals, especially on good pitches. Internationally, good pitches do not provide spin, so spinning the ball is imperative," he explained.
Mushtaq, who conducted a similar camp last year, expressed confidence in Bangladesh's growing pool of spin bowlers, stating that the country's depth in this area is continually improving. However, he underscored the necessity for young spinners to focus on technical accuracy and consistency in their training.
"The future of spin bowling here is very bright, but we must safeguard these young talents and ensure their fundamentals and processes are solid," he concluded.
"In this camp, like last year, all the coaches, both myself and local coaches, are concentrating on the basics. If they can establish a strong foundation now, they will succeed wherever they play," he stated.
"I believe that motivation, confidence, and overall development stem from adhering to the foundational processes. On quality pitches with minimal turn, relying on skills becomes crucial, and that capability emerges only from a robust foundation."
