Bengaluru, March 18 (NationPress) SC Bengaluru endured a final 30-minute onslaught to secure a 3-2 victory over Real Kashmir FC at the Bangalore Football Stadium on Tuesday, despite defender Sanatomba Singh receiving a red card in the 60th minute.
Both teams were locked at 2-2 by half-time.
Thomya Shimray (5’) initiated the scoring for the home side, but Gnohere Krizo (12’ p, 32’) responded with two goals for Real Kashmir. Shravan Shetty (36’) equalized for SC Bengaluru before Faslurahman Methukayil (48’) netted the decisive goal after the break.
This victory enables SC Bengaluru to move past Aizawl FC into 10th position, amassing 20 points from 19 matches and escaping the relegation zone. Real Kashmir remains third with 32 points from the same number of games.
The hosts surged ahead early with a goal from Thomyo Shimray in the fifth minute. The winger slipped between two center-backs to convert a rebound from close range after Mohd Arbaz had saved an initial shot.
However, SC Bengaluru's lead was short-lived. Just seven minutes later, Real Kashmir equalized through a penalty awarded for a foul in the box, which Gnohere Krizo successfully converted.
Real Kashmir capitalized on their momentum and dominated possession for the next phase of the match. Shortly after the half-hour mark, they were rewarded when Krizo turned and curled a shot into the far corner from the left side of the box.
The back-and-forth nature of the match continued as SC Bengaluru equalized just four minutes later. Mohd Arbaz misjudged a corner, allowing a Bengaluru player to attempt a bicycle kick that was cleared off the line, leading to Shravan Shetty scoring from the rebound.
Just after the restart, Bengaluru regained the lead due to another defensive blunder by Kashmir. Hyder Yousuf attempted to head a long ball back to his goalkeeper but inadvertently set up Faslurahman Methukayil, who volleyed into the net from a tight angle.
However, trouble loomed for Bengaluru when Sanatomba Singh received a straight red card for a high tackle on Yousuf, leaving the hosts with ten men for the final third of the match. Almost immediately, Kashmir seemed poised to equalize again, but Elhadji Karim Samb hit the crossbar with his effort.
Bengaluru then adapted their formation and strategy, focusing on defense and attempting to preserve their lead. Despite Kashmir's relentless attacking efforts, they failed to find the crucial goal, granting Bengaluru a significant win in their fight for survival.
