Chennai, Oct 7 (NationPress) Services boxers showcased their supremacy on the national stage as the men’s segment of the inaugural BFI Cup 2025 wrapped up in Chennai on Tuesday. Acclaimed athletes including Vishwanath, Husamuddin, Vanshaj, Sachin, and Ankush clinched gold medals.
Asian U-22 champion S. Vishwanath kicked off the proceedings for Services with an impressive 5:0 victory against Ashish (Haryana) in the (47–50kg) category, while Ashish (Services) narrowly defeated Navraj (AIP) 3:2 in a thrilling final of the (50–55kg) weight class. World Championships bronze medallist Mohammad Husamuddin (Services) maintained his excellent form, besting Sagar Jakhar (SAI) with a flawless 5:0 scoreline in the (55–60kg) bout. In the (60–65kg) category, Vanshaj (Services) triumphed over his teammate Preet Malik (Services) with a close 3:2 decision, while Sumit Kumar (SAI) dominated in the (65–70kg) final against Rajat (Services) with a 5:0 win.
Sachin (Services) continued the team’s winning streak with a decisive 5:0 victory over Neeraj (Haryana) in the (70–75kg) match, followed by Ankush (Services), who secured another dominant 5:0 win against Aman (Chandigarh) in the (75–80kg) final.
In the heavier weight classes, Naveen Boora (Services) defeated Vinit (Railways) 3:0 in the (80–85kg) category, while Daksh (SAI) narrowly edged out Vishal Gupta (Services) 3:2 to take the (85–90kg) title. The competition concluded with Sawan Gill (Chandigarh) overcoming Lakshya Rathi (SAI) 3:2 in the (90–90+kg) super heavyweight final. With a total of seven gold medals, Services emerged as the top-performing team, followed by Haryana and Railways in second and third places, respectively.
For individual accolades, Maharashtra’s Khushi Jadhav, the winner of the 54kg category, was honored as the Best Boxer among women, while Parthavi Grehwal of Rajasthan (65kg) earned the Best Challenger title, and Tamil Nadu’s G. Resika (80+kg) was acknowledged as the Most Promising Boxer.
