New Delhi, Dec 18 (NationPress) The chairman of Gujarat Titans, Jinal Mehta, along with director Shaan Mehta, expressed their confidence in Shubman Gill’s ability to lead the team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for numerous years ahead.
After joining the Gujarat Titans in 2022 following an impressive stint with Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018 to 2021, where he emerged as their top run-scorer in 2020 and 2021, Gill's significant contributions played a vital role in GT securing the IPL 2022 championship. He further excelled in the IPL 2023 season, amassing 890 runs and hitting four centuries.
Gill was subsequently named captain of Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Although the team finished eighth in his inaugural season as captain, he retained the role for the 2025 season, during which GT progressed to the playoffs, ending the season in third place.
“GT recognized Shubman's batting prowess and leadership potential very early on. He has excelled for both GT and India,” Jinal stated in an interview following the mini-auction.
Shaan remarked, “The camaraderie built over the past few years remains strong, and Shubman will continue to steer us forward for many years.”
During the mini-auction held recently, GT bolstered their roster with five new signings: West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder, England wicketkeeper-batter Tom Banton, Indian fast bowler Ashok Sharma, England left-arm pacer Luke Wood, and uncapped Indian speedster Prithvi Raj.
Reflecting on the squad's construction during the auction, Jinal mentioned, “We approached the auction with our core intact, making minimal adjustments. We only changed five players, focusing on specific needs.”
“We required a couple of fast bowlers, an all-rounder, and a middle-order batter. We are pleased with the results and have met all our goals. We welcome our new recruits and are excited about the upcoming season,” he added.
“In our four seasons, we've reached the playoffs three times, winning in our inaugural season and finishing as runners-up in our second. We look forward to continuing our journey with our current squad, anticipating a fantastic season ahead.”
Commenting on the Narendra Modi Stadium, Jinal Mehta, Director of Torrent Group and Chairman of Gujarat Titans, stated, “We’re fortunate to have the world’s largest stadium as our home. The atmosphere is electrifying when the Gujarat Titans play, creating the perfect environment for our players to shine, and we couldn’t ask for a better home than the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.”
With a robust squad comprising seasoned players and promising talents, the 2022 champions aim to secure their second IPL title.
