Did BCCI VP Rajeev Shukla Denounce AI-Altered Audio on Pakistani TV?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has stated that an audio clip linked to him discussing the upcoming India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match on a Pakistani television show was manipulated through artificial intelligence and does not represent his actual statements. Shukla urged the public to refrain from believing or disseminating such deceptive content and to report it wherever it surfaces.
"A video of my comments regarding the India-Pakistan World Cup match has been artificially altered to distort the audio. These statements do not originate from me. I encourage everyone not to trust or spread this misleading information and to report such videos whenever encountered," he expressed in a post on X.
A Pakistani cricket show, hosted by former cricketer Shoaib Malik, aired an AI-generated version of an audio clip purportedly featuring Shukla's remarks about Pakistan's sudden change of heart on its earlier proposed boycott of the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash.
In the show, Malik is heard saying, "I would like to present a clip of BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla," before showcasing the dubious audio.
In this clip, a voice that poorly mimics Shukla’s states, "I am thrilled to witness the outcome of the discussions initiated by the ICC representative on BCCI's repeated requests to persuade Pakistan to play against India. It's a favorable and amicable solution that prioritizes cricket, which is vital to the game. This is what has been achieved."
Nonetheless, Shukla’s original statements conveyed a different sentiment.
While addressing reporters on Tuesday, he praised the International Cricket Council (ICC) for "finding an amicable solution" that ensured the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match would proceed as scheduled after Pakistan reversed its initial decision to boycott the fixture.
"I am pleased to see the results of the discussions led by the ICC representative, as overseen by the ICC chairman, along with representatives who traveled to Lahore to engage with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board. A favorable solution has been reached, emphasizing the significance of cricket to the sport," he stated to reporters on Tuesday.
