Pune, Feb 19 (NationPress) Shweta Mansingh, who has previously come close to securing her first title on the Women’s Pro Golf Tour, has positioned herself in the lead after the opening round of the third leg of the WPGT 2025 at the Poona Club Golf Course.
Shweta recorded a score of 2-under 69, giving her a narrow lead of one shot over Sneha Singh and Vani Kapoor, both of whom finished with 1-under 70.
Veteran Neha Tripathi (71) shared third place with Hitaashee Bakshi, the previous Hero OOM champion, who began her round with a bogey but ended with a birdie, also finishing with a score of 71.
Four players, including Amandeep Drall, Kriti Chowhan, Shagun Narain, and Vidhatri Urs, were tied for sixth with scores of 1-over 72 each. Seher Atwal (73) was tied for tenth alongside the day’s top amateur, Saanvi Somu.
Shweta, who tied for second with Sneha in Leg 16 of the 2023 season at TNGF, had previously tied for second in Leg 15 of the 2021 season at RCGC. Based in Gurugram, Shweta had an early bogey on the second hole but rebounded with three birdies over four holes between the fourth and seventh. She finished the front nine at 2-under and added another birdie on the tenth to reach three-under. However, a late bogey on the Par-5 18th brought her final score to 2-under 69.
Sneha, who won the second leg this season, had one bogey on the Par-5 but bounced back with birdies on the tenth and thirteenth to maintain a score under par for the day.
Meanwhile, Vani Kapoor, who was the runner-up to Sneha in the second leg, had a mix of one bogey on the third and birdies on the fourth and ninth, paring the entire back nine.
Neha Tripathi’s four birdies were overshadowed by two bogeys and a double bogey, while Hitaashee Bakshi recorded an equal number of birdies and bogeys.
