New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) Liverpool's head coach Arne Slot opted not to address the rumors surrounding Alexander Isak, the forward from Newcastle United, after he was mentioned in connection with the Merseyside club.
Reports suggest that Liverpool had put forth an offer near £110 million, which was swiftly rejected by Newcastle, who are believed to be seeking around £150 million. Currently, Liverpool appears to have stepped back, especially following the departure of Luis Diaz to Bayern and speculation regarding Darwin Nunez's exit, indicating that another bid could be forthcoming.
"There are many questions I prefer not to entertain. You never discuss players who aren't part of your team, so I’d rather talk about Hugo Ekitike, who we recently acquired and is performing admirably so far," stated Slot.
"We are pleased with our current squad, and there’s every reason to celebrate, especially after winning the league last season. Although some players have departed, we have also made new signings, and our young talents are thriving."
Regarding Darwin, Slot mentioned, "At this moment, while he might leave, nothing is finalized yet. We will need to wait a few days to see how that unfolds, but there is a possibility he could depart,” he explained during a press conference.
Liverpool is set to kick off their season on Sunday against F.A Cup champions Crystal Palace in the Community Shield.
Slot took a moment to reflect on the tragic passing of Liverpool's forward Diogo Jota, who, along with his brother Andre Silva, lost their lives in a car accident. He acknowledged the emotional toll it has taken recently.
"The tragedy has affected us deeply, but it has had an even greater impact on his wife, children, and parents. We too have felt the loss, and the tributes have been incredibly moving and significant. It began in Preston, but the emotional weight has been felt throughout,” he concluded.
