New Delhi, March 17 (NationPress) Special Olympics Bharat hosted a celebratory reception on Monday for the Indian athletes who arrived back from Turin, Italy, following a remarkable campaign at the 2025 Special Olympics World Winter Games, held at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

The ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, along with the President of Special Olympics Bharat, Mallika Nadda.

On stage, they were joined by Special Olympics Bharat athlete Bharti, who secured two gold medals during the event.

The Indian team, consisting of 30 athletes and 19 support staff members, returned home with an impressive haul of 33 medals: 8 gold, 18 silver, and 7 bronze, achieved across six sports: alpine skiing, snowboarding, floorball, snowshoeing, short track speed skating, and cross country skiing.

In recognition of these outstanding achievements, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced an increase in cash rewards for the medalists. Gold medal winners will receive a cash prize of Rs. 20 lakhs, while silver and bronze medallists will be awarded Rs. 14 lakhs and Rs. 8 lakhs, respectively.

Minister Raksha Khadse expressed pride in the athletes, stating, “We are extremely proud of the athletes, who demonstrated exceptional performance in Turin. This is a testament to their resilience and the hard work they have put in to achieve these results. I would also like to commend Special Olympics Bharat for their efforts in providing opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to showcase their talents on the global stage and make our nation proud.”

Dr. Mallika Nadda, President of Special Olympics Bharat, celebrated the perseverance and remarkable accomplishments of the Indian athletes, stating, “Our athletes have once again demonstrated that determination knows no barriers.
