South United Football Club to Launch Its First Inter-City Tournament Aimed at Boosting Grassroots Football

Bengaluru, Jan 9 (NationPress) South United Football Club (SUFC) has officially announced the launch of the first-ever SUFC Inter-City tournament, a groundbreaking event that will see teams from the South United Football Academy (SUFA) Pune face off against teams from SUFA Bangalore.

This exciting two-day event is scheduled for January 11 and 12 at SUFC’s state-of-the-art facility located in Ulsoor, Bangalore.

The tournament aims to bring together over 250 young football enthusiasts, showcasing the Bengaluru-based club's commitment to grassroots football initiatives.

Structured to motivate and connect aspiring athletes, the SUFC Inter-City Tournament will encompass six age categories: Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, and Under-17.

Players will engage in an exhilarating two-day competition, featuring round-robin matches on the first day, followed by the semi-finals and finals on the second day.

In addition to the matches, the tournament will provide enriching experiences for the young participants, including a meet-and-greet with the Sporting Director of South United Sports Foundation, Terry Phelan, along with interactions with senior players from the club.

Participants will also have the opportunity to attend an Indian Super League (ISL) match between Bengaluru FC and Mohammedan SC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium on January 11.

The tournament will serve as a scouting opportunity for SUFC’s new Residential Academy Program, where top performers may be eligible for scholarships. This program aims to offer world-class facilities and comprehensive training to bridge the gap between grassroots and professional football development, providing a clear pathway for player progression.

According to Pranav Trehan, CEO of South United Football Club, "The SUFC Inter-City Tournament represents a significant milestone in our mission to enhance grassroots football in India. This initiative focuses not just on competition but on creating opportunities for young players to gain match experience and learn tactics early on. We are thrilled to offer a platform that integrates the best of football, education, and community development, paving the way for a brighter future for these gifted athletes."

Aligned with SUFC’s vision to link sports and education, the tournament will feature a special session introducing the club’s forthcoming Residential Academy Program, which seeks to seamlessly blend academics with football training.

As part of the program, SUFC's chief scout and analyst, Indresh Nagarajan, will conduct a workshop for players to enhance their understanding of key football concepts through video analysis.

This workshop will delve into evidence-based practices for utilizing video analysis to boost players' learning by improving their observation, reflection, and performance skills.
