Southampton, April 7 (NationPress) Southampton FC has terminated the contract of first team manager Ivan Juric, just a day after the team faced the earliest relegation in history, with seven matches remaining in the Premier League, following a 1-3 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Juric was appointed as the successor to Russell Martin just four days ahead of Christmas, signing an 18-month contract, but his tenure lasted only 108 days, during which he experienced 12 losses out of 14 matches in the top division.

“Ivan joined Southampton during a challenging period and was given the responsibility to enhance a squad in a precarious position. Sadly, we did not witness the progress in performances that we anticipated, but we extend our gratitude to Ivan and his staff for their transparency and dedication while battling against the odds to maintain our status,” the Southampton statement expressed.

“With our relegation to the Championship now confirmed, we find it crucial to provide clarity to fans, players, and staff as we prepare for a pivotal summer,” the statement added.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the club had a relegation clause in Juric’s contract, which contributed to his early exit.

Simon Rusk, who was previously appointed as interim manager post-Martin's dismissal, will now lead the team for the remainder of the season, assisted by former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana.

“The search for a new manager to guide us as we aim for an immediate return to the Premier League has commenced, spearheaded by Group Technical Director Johannes Spors.

“In the interim, Simon Rusk has consented to oversee the squad for the final seven matches of this season, supported by Adam Lallana,” the statement concluded.
