New Delhi, April 14 (NationPress) The 2016 IPL champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), are facing a significant setback in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, as all-rounder Brydon Carse has been sidelined for the entire tournament due to injury without participating in any matches. The team has announced the inclusion of Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka to take Carse's place.

"Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have officially selected Dilshan Madushanka as a substitute for Brydon Carse for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Carse is unable to continue in the current season due to an injury," stated the Indian Premier League in a press release on Tuesday.

Madushanka, a left-arm medium pacer, has played one Test, 28 ODIs, and 19 T20Is for Sri Lanka, accumulating 70 wickets in international cricket. He will join SRH for an amount of INR 75 lakh. Previously, he was part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL.

His addition is set to strengthen the SRH bowling lineup, which already includes promising talents like Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain, along with seasoned bowlers such as Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat. Their captain, Pat Cummins, is expected to return to the squad on April 17.

Notably, Madushanka has yet to make an appearance in the IPL. He was acquired by MI for ₹4.6 crore in 2024 but had to withdraw due to a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old pacer is recognized for his early swing bowling capabilities.

In the absence of Cummins, Ishan Kishan is leading the team, which has secured victories in two out of five matches this season. Currently, SRH sits in fourth place on the points table with a net run rate of +0.576.

Recently, SRH triumphed over the top-ranked Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Monday, thanks to an impressive bowling performance from debutants Praful and Sakib, who each claimed four wickets, resulting in RR being bowled out for only 159 runs while chasing a hefty target of 217 runs, thus losing by 57 runs. Their next match is against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at their home ground, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, on Saturday.

Point of View

The situation surrounding Sunrisers Hyderabad underscores the unpredictability of sports, particularly in high-stakes leagues like IPL. The injury to Carse is unfortunate, but the recruitment of Madushanka could offer a fresh start for the team. It's essential to keep an eye on how this affects their performance in the remaining matches.
