New Delhi, Feb 24 (NationPress) In preparation for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), former Indian cricketer Sridharan Sriram has been named the assistant bowling coach for the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings.

The franchise made the announcement via their social media platforms on Monday. Currently, Sriram is a broadcaster with the Star Sports Tamil commentary team for the Champions Trophy and will join the CSK coaching staff that includes head coach Stephen Fleming, batting coach Michael Hussey, bowling consultant Eric Simons, and batting and fielding coach Rajiv Kumar.

In his role at CSK, Sriram will collaborate with experienced spinners such as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shreyas Gopal, along with Deepak Hooda, who can contribute as a part-time off-spinner. The squad also features Afghanistan's wrist-spinner Noor Ahmad and New Zealand's left-arm spin all-rounder Rachin Ravindra for the IPL 2025 season.

Hailing from Chennai, Sriram played eight ODI matches for India between 2000 and 2004. In domestic cricket, he was a left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner for Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Himachal Pradesh, accumulating 9539 runs in 133 first-class matches and taking 85 wickets.

After retiring from playing, Sriram took on the role of spin-bowling coach and later became the assistant coach for the Australian men's cricket team from 2016 to 2022. During his tenure, Australia clinched the 2021 Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, marking their first title in this format.

At 49 years old, Sriram also acted as the technical consultant for the Bangladesh men’s cricket team during the 2022 Asia Cup and the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup. In the IPL, he served as the spin-bowling coach for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) until IPL 2023, before joining the Lucknow Super Giants as their assistant coach for the IPL 2024 season.
