Key Takeaways
Chennai, March 4 (NationPress) The five-time champions Chennai Super Kings are on the verge of hiring former England wicketkeeper-batter James Foster as their new fielding coach for the upcoming IPL 2026 season, enhancing their coaching team led by head coach Stephen Fleming.
At 45, Foster has played for England in seven Tests, 11 ODIs, and five T20Is from 2001 to 2009. Renowned for his exceptional wicketkeeping abilities, he has garnered an impressive coaching reputation in various franchise cricket leagues globally.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed this news, stating, “We have been on the lookout for a fielding coach. I am optimistic that he will be joining us,” as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Foster comes with a wealth of experience from numerous T20 leagues. He has previously held the position of fielding coach with the Kolkata Knight Riders and has also worked with teams such as Desert Vipers in the ILT20, Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, and Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
At CSK, Foster will be part of a well-established support team that features batting coach Mike Hussey, bowling coach Eric Simons, assistant bowling coach Sridharan Sriram, and fielding coach Rajiv Kumar. Russell Radhakrishnan continues to serve as the team manager.
This appointment follows a disappointing IPL 2025 season for CSK, where they finished last on the points table with only four victories in 14 matches. The franchise has already initiated its pre-season camp at its high-performance center in Chennai, with several Indian players currently in training.
Veteran wicketkeeper MS Dhoni is among those present at the camp, while players on international assignments are expected to join later.
Recently, CSK made headlines with a significant trade involving Sanju Samson, as the franchise aims to rebuild and make a strong comeback in IPL 2026.
The team has also recruited promising talents like Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma while parting ways with long-time player Ravindra Jadeja. Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue leading the team as they strive for their record sixth title.
