Gqeberha, Jan 20 (NationPress) The Sunrisers Eastern Cape have secured their position in the playoffs following a second successive bonus point victory against the Durban Super Giants at St George's Park. A commanding display from the reigning champions led to a comprehensive six-wicket triumph over the Super Giants.

After enduring three straight defeats, the champions have indeed found their rhythm, moving closer to the form that earned them consecutive SA20 titles in the previous two seasons.

Marco Jansen, last season's top wicket-taker, showcased his skills with a remarkable new-ball spell, finishing with figures of 2/23.

He dismissed opener Brandon King with only the second delivery of the innings, igniting celebrations among the nearly full crowd at St George’s Park.

The Orange Army was in high spirits, with the iconic brass band contributing to a vibrant SA20 atmosphere in Gqeberha.

“I’m pleased with how things are going right now. Bowling in the powerplay is challenging, but for me, it’s all about taking wickets and everything clicks into place,” Jansen expressed.

“I aim to consistently bowl in the right areas. We undoubtedly have the best fans in the country, and I appreciate their support.”

The home side was motivated to shine, with Jansen receiving excellent backing from Richard Gleeson (2-19), Ottneil Baartman (2-30), and left-arm spinner Liam Dawson (2-11), limiting the visitors to a score of 115/8.

Gleeson has ascended to the top of the tournament’s wicket-takers chart with eight wickets at an average of 14.25.

The Super Giants' innings was anchored by New Zealand's Kane Williamson, who scored 44 runs off 45 deliveries, but he received little backing until last man Naveen-ul-Haq contributed 30 runs off just 15 balls.

The Sunrisers' chase was spearheaded by opener David Bedingham's brisk 39 runs, followed by Jordan Hermann's 23 in the middle order.

Ultimately, it was left to captain Aiden Markram to seal the victory, finishing unbeaten on 31 runs off merely 20 balls, as the Sunrisers aimed for the bonus point.

Markram capped off the match for the home fans by smashing a colossal six over square leg, sending the Orange Army home in joyous elation.
