Munich, June 13 (NationPress) — Suruchi Inder Singh has clinched a spot in the final of the women's 10m Air Pistol event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Shooting World Cup, while Paris Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker was unable to qualify on Friday. Suruchi achieved a score of 588, including 20 inner 10s, placing her second in the qualification round, just behind China's Yao Qianxun, who set a Qualification World Record Junior with a score of 589 - 21x.
Unfortunately, Manu ended her run in 25th position with a score of 574 - 14x, while another Indian competitor, Palak, finished 36th with a score of 570 - 18x. It's noteworthy that Suruchi had previously outperformed Manu in the women’s 10m air pistol event at the ISSF World Cup in Lima, Peru, securing the gold in April this year.
In the final, Suruchi recorded a total of 243.6, surpassing Manu, a two-time Olympic medallist, who finished with 242.3, earning the silver medal. This marks Suruchi's second consecutive gold in the women’s 10m air pistol event at ISSF World Cups this year.
The talented 19-year-old from Jhajjar, Haryana, celebrated her first podium finish at a senior World Cup by winning gold in Buenos Aires earlier this year. On the other hand, Manu’s silver in Peru was her first medal since achieving a double bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympics, following a disappointing outing in Buenos Aires.
Additionally, another Indian shooter, Sainyam, participating for Ranking Points Only (RPO), scored 580 - 23x.
Earlier in the competition, double Paris Olympics bronze medallist Manu finished sixth in the women’s 25m pistol final.
India's medal tally commenced with Olympian Elavenil Valarivan, who secured a bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle on Day One. Furthermore, Indian shooting star Sift Kaur Samra added to her accolades by winning a bronze medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event.
