Sydney Thunder Welcomes Laura Harris and Hasrat Gill for WBBL 11

Sydney, Dec 11 (NationPress) Sydney Thunder has enhanced their lineup for the Women's Big Bash League season 11 with the addition of experienced batter Laura Harris and rising star Hasrat Gill.
Harris joins the Thunder after a decade with the Brisbane Heat, while Gill comes from the Melbourne Stars. Head Coach Lisa Keightley stated that both players were essential targets in Thunder’s strategy to improve upon their third-place finish in WBBL 10.
Harris, celebrated for her explosive power-hitting and game-changing skills, brings a vast amount of experience to the Thunder. At 32 years of age, she has an impressive WBBL track record, having participated in 123 matches, secured two championships, and accumulated 1,275 runs with an astonishing strike rate of 159.17.
“This opportunity with Sydney Thunder felt like the right step to reignite my passion for the game,” Harris expressed in the club’s announcement.
“I’ve followed Sydney Thunder from a distance, and there’s an abundance of talent within the group. Players like Phoebe Litchfield have been incredibly inspiring – they play with remarkable freedom.
“There’s a wealth of exciting young talent in the Thunder squad, and I’m eager to provide a sense of calm and experience to help everyone believe in themselves and play their natural game.”
Keightley noted that Harris contributes both valuable experience and versatility to the team.
“We’re delighted to have Laura Harris on board,” said Keightley.
“She is an explosive player capable of changing the outcome of matches with her power-hitting. Her experience and adaptability will be a crucial asset, especially during high-pressure situations towards the end of the innings.
“She offers us options and flexibility, whether it’s during a surge or in the closing overs. We can utilize her strategically to make a significant impact wherever the game calls for it.
“Her adaptability is crucial—she can bat in various positions based on the game’s context. That flexibility makes her an invaluable addition to our team.”
Gill, a leg-spinner originally from India, is one of Australia’s most promising young players. At just 19 years old, she has already showcased her potential by representing Australia at the junior level and excelled in the inaugural T20 Spring Challenge earlier this year.
Keightley mentioned that Gill fills a vital role in the Thunder’s roster. “We’re extremely excited to incorporate a leg-spin option into our squad for WBBL 11. Leg-spinners are making a notable impact across the league, and we identified this as a gap in our team,” Keightley stated.
“She’s a rising player who impressed us during the Spring Challenge. We’re looking forward to offering her the chance to grow and make a difference for Sydney Thunder throughout the season.”
General Manager Trent Copeland echoed Keightley’s thoughts.
“Since assuming my role in March, one of our main focuses has been to establish a young core of players who can grow together and potentially represent Australia. A gap we recognized in our skills matrix was a leg-spinner, and Hasrat Gill fits that profile perfectly,” Copeland said.
“She’s not only a skilled leg-spinner; she is also an exceptional batswoman. We’ve witnessed her dominance at the under-19 level and were impressed during the Spring Challenge. Everything I’ve heard about her—her work ethic, passion for the game, and dedication—gives me confidence that she’ll be a fantastic addition to our team.”
