New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) Indian cricketer Tilak Varma expressed his admiration for his teammate and former captain Virat Kohli after witnessing Kohli's remarkable century against South Africa on Sunday at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Kohli achieved his 83rd career international century, marking his 52nd in the 50-over format, during the first match of the three-match ODI series. Coming in to bat in the fourth over following Yashasvi Jasiwal's early exit, Kohli dominated the opposition bowlers, finishing with an impressive 135 runs off 120 balls.
Varma, who felt privileged to see Kohli's century live, shared in a video posted on bcci.tv, "We witnessed another exceptional performance. I'm thrilled to have seen Virat bhai's century live. For the past 17 years, he has consistently been electrifying on the field—his batting, fielding, everything. He is simply phenomenal."
He also mentioned that he has gained substantial insights from Kohli’s performances and aims to seek advice from the cricketing legend to incorporate those lessons into his own game.
“I've learned a great deal and it’s a joy to observe him play live. I will continue to engage with him and absorb as much knowledge as possible. If I get a chance in the upcoming matches, I hope to apply what I've learned,” he added.
Kohli's stellar 135 in the first ODI not only led India to a 17-run victory but also gave the Men in Blue a 1-0 lead in the series.
The two teams will clash again on Wednesday at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur, with India aiming to secure a second consecutive win and take a decisive 2-0 lead in the series.
