Chennai, March 27 (NationPress) The Tamil Nadu Surfing Association (TNSA) has been awarded the esteemed Chief Minister’s State Sports Award for 2025-26 in the category of Best Sports Organiser by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDATN). This accolade recognizes TNSA's exceptional role in organizing both national and international surfing events, as well as its efforts in promoting the sport throughout the state.

This award, granted by the Government of Tamil Nadu, underscores TNSA's unwavering commitment to fostering a dynamic surfing environment within the state. Arun Vasu, President of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI), accepted this honor on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association.

In recent years, Tamil Nadu has solidified its reputation as the surf capital of India, becoming a leading destination for surfing and stand-up paddling nationally. The state boasts world-renowned surf spots like Covelong (Kovalam) and Mahabalipuram, and has successfully hosted several major competitions, including international events such as the Asian Surfing Championships and numerous national surfing and SUP championships, as per the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association's announcement on Friday.

The advancement of surfing in Tamil Nadu is greatly supported by Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. Under the leadership of Meghnath Reddy, the SDAT Member Secretary, improved infrastructure and ongoing support have allowed the Tamil Nadu Surfing Association to conduct world-class events and nurture budding talent.

These events have significantly enhanced India's visibility in the global surfing arena and have been crucial in developing home-grown talent, with numerous surfers from Tamil Nadu making their presence felt in international competitions. The steadfast support from the Tamil Nadu government, along with the dedicated efforts of TNSA and the Surfing Federation of India, has facilitated the growth of the sport at both grassroots and elite levels.

TNSA has been pivotal in conceptualizing, organizing, and executing large-scale surfing events in the state, ensuring that competition management, athlete participation, and global visibility meet world-class standards. Their initiatives have paved a sustainable path for athletes while simultaneously boosting sports tourism and engaging local communities along the coast.

In response to this recognition, Arun Vasu stated, “This award reflects the collective dedication of everyone who has contributed to building surfing in Tamil Nadu, from athletes and coaches to government and local communities.
