Mumbai, Dec 3 (NationPress) Teams led by Olympians Rohan Bopanna and Vishnu Vardhan claimed victory on the first day of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 6, with both teams securing the top position in the standings on Tuesday. The Rajasthan Rangers, Hyderabad Strikers, Yash Mumbai Eagles, and Chennai Smashers celebrated convincing wins after an exhilarating day of tennis at the Cricket Club of India.

The opening day featured a series of exciting and fiercely contested matches, with Bopanna delivering an impressive performance for the fans. The matches took place on a dark-colored court and included all eight teams participating on this thrilling Tuesday.

The action commenced with the Rajasthan Rangers facing off against the Gujarat Panthers in the first match of the season, where Christina Dinu took on Ekaterina Kazionova in the women’s singles category. Dinu emerged victorious with a score of 14-11 in a closely fought opening game. Arthur Fery from the Rajasthan Rangers also triumphed over Sumit Nagal of the Gujarat Panthers with the same scoreline (14-11) in the men’s singles.

The Rajasthan Rangers continued their winning streak in the mixed doubles category, as Rohan Bopanna and Christina Dinu defeated Vijay Sundar Prashanth and Ekaterina Kazionova with a score of 14-11.

In the men's doubles, the duo of Bopanna and Arthur Fery secured a victory against Sumit Nagal and Vijay Sundar Prashanth with a score of 15-10, helping the Rajasthan Rangers win the match 57-43.

In the second match of Day One, the Hyderabad Strikers faced the Bengal Wizards. Harriet Dart and Kamilla Rakhimova kicked things off, with Dart winning 18-7 in the women’s singles. In the men’s singles, Benjamin Lock triumphed over Niki Poonacha in a challenging contest, ending at 16-9.

The mixed doubles featured Harriet Dart and Vishnu Vardhan against Kamilla Rakhimova and Sriram Balaji, with the Bengal Wizards winning a thrilling match 13-12. Despite Niki Poonacha and Sriram Balaji defeating Benjamin Lock and Vishnu Vardhan 14-11 in the men's doubles, the Hyderabad Strikers clinched the match 57-43.

The third match featured the Punjab Patriots going head-to-head with the Yash Mumbai Eagles. Elina Avanesyan won a nail-biting match against Zeynep Sonmez with a score of 13-12 in the women’s singles. Karan Singh of the Yash Mumbai Eagles dominated against Mukund Sasikumar of the Punjab Patriots, winning 18-7.

In the mixed doubles, Saketh Myneni and Elina Avanesyan from the Punjab Patriots emerged victorious against Jeevan Neduncheziyan and Zeynep Sonmez, winning 13-12 in a hard-fought match.

Another closely contested battle occurred in the men’s doubles, where Saketh Myneni and Mukund Sasikumar faced off against Jeevan Neduncheziyan and Karan Singh, with the Yash Mumbai Eagles duo winning 13-12, sealing the match with a score of 55-45.

The final match of the day showcased the Bengaluru SG Pipers against the Chennai Smashers. Chennai Smashers’ Conny Perrin won her women’s singles match against Gabriela Knutson of the Bengaluru SG Pipers 13-12. The men’s singles also ended in a fiercely contested battle, where Hugo Gaston triumphed over Bernabe Zapata 13-12.

The Chennai Smashers continued their dominance with Conny Perrin and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli winning 17-8 against Anirudh Chandrasekar and Gabriela Knutson. In the final men’s doubles match, Anirudh Chandrasekar and Bernabe Zapata secured a 14-11 victory against Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli and Hugo Gaston. However, the Chennai Smashers ultimately claimed the match 54-46.

Following an exhilarating Day One, the Hyderabad Strikers and Rajasthan Rangers sit atop the leaderboard with 57 points each. The Yash Mumbai Eagles are in third place with 55 points, followed closely by the Chennai Smashers in fourth with 54 points. The Bengaluru SG Pipers and Punjab Patriots are tied at 45 points, while the Bengal Wizards and Gujarat Panthers round out the standings with 43 points each.
