TPL Season 6: Sumit Nagal Drives Gujarat Panthers into Semifinals, Joining Eagles, Strikers, and Rangers

Mumbai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Sumit Nagal, recognized as India’s premier singles player, showcased exceptional form as he propelled the Gujarat Panthers into the semifinals of the Tennis Premier League (TPL) Season 6 at the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai on Saturday. They were the final team to clinch a spot in the semifinals.
The TPL has now entered a critical phase, with the qualifying teams confirmed after the concluding round of league matches on Saturday. The Yash Mumbai Eagles, Hyderabad Strikers, Rajasthan Rangers, and Gujarat Panthers will be contending for the championship.
In the last match of the day, the Gujarat Panthers went up against the Chennai Smashers with everything on the line. In the Women’s Singles segment, Conny Perrin provided her team with a perfect start, defeating Ekaterina Kazionova with a score of 16-9. In the Men’s Singles event, Sumit Nagal triumphed over Hugo Gaston, winning 15-10.
The pairing of Ekaterina Kazionova and Vijay Sundar Prashanth from the Gujarat Panthers contended against Conny Perrin and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli, with the former securing a 15-10 victory. As the stage was set for an electrifying Men’s Doubles face-off, Sumit Nagal and Vijay Sundar Prashanth emerged victorious in a nail-biting match, winning 13-12 against Hugo Gaston and Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli. With a narrow 52-48 win, the Gujarat Panthers guaranteed their spot for the final day.
Earlier, the fifth day featured thrilling action as teams were determined to secure their positions for the last day. In the opening match, the Punjab Patriots took on Hyderabad Strikers. In the Women’s Singles, Harriet Dart of the Hyderabad Strikers continued her impressive streak, overcoming Elina Avanesyan of Punjab Patriots 16-9.
In response, the Punjab Patriots rallied as Mukund Sasikumar triumphed over Benjamin Lock, winning 18-7 in the Men’s Singles. In the Mixed Doubles, the duo of Harriet Dart and Vishnu Vardhan from Hyderabad Strikers defeated Elina Avanesyan and Saketh Myneni of Punjab Patriots with a score of 14-11.
With just one point between the two teams, the tension was palpable in the Men’s Doubles. Mukund Sasikumar and Saketh Myneni from Punjab Patriots clinched a 13-12 victory over Vishnu Vardhan and Benjamin Lock of Hyderabad Strikers. The Punjab Patriots ultimately triumphed with a score of 51-49 against Hyderabad Strikers.
In the second match, the Rajasthan Rangers faced off against Bengaluru SG Pipers. Gabriela Knutson of Bengaluru SG Pipers defeated Cristina Dinu 14-11 in a thrilling Women’s Singles match. Arthur Fery from Rajasthan Rangers won a close contest against Bernabe Zapata Miralles, securing a 13-12 victory in the Men’s Singles.
In Mixed Doubles, Anirudh Chandrasekar and Gabriela Knutson of Bengaluru SG Pipers defeated Rohan Bopanna and Cristina Dinu from Rajasthan Rangers 13-12. In the Men’s Doubles, Rohan Bopanna and Arthur Fery fought hard to win against Bernabe Zapata Miralles and Anirudh Chandrasekhar 14-11. The match concluded with both teams tied at 50 points each, marking the first tie of the season for the Tennis Premier League.
The third match was yet another nail-biter between the Bengal Wizards and Yash Mumbai Eagles. Zeynep Sonmez dazzled with a 15-10 victory over Kamilla Rakhimova in the Women’s Singles. In the Men’s Singles, Karan Singh and Sriram Balaji engaged in a fiercely contested match, with Sriram Balaji edging out with a 13-12 win.
Zeynep Sonmez and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan clinched a tight win against Kamilla Rakhimova and Siddhant Banthia, with the Yash Mumbai Eagles duo winning 13-12 in the Mixed Doubles. In the Men’s Doubles, Siddhant Banthia and Sriram Balaji achieved a 15-10 victory against Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Karan Singh, resulting in the second tie of the day, both teams finishing with 50 points.
After five days filled with thrilling matches, the sixth season of the Tennis Premier League has its semifinalists determined. Yash Mumbai Eagles lead the points table with 265 points and will face Gujarat Panthers, who secured fourth place with 253 points. The second semifinal will feature Hyderabad Strikers, who finished second with 260 points, taking on the Rajasthan Rangers, who claimed third place with 255 points.
