Vadodara, Feb 14 (NationPress) The UP Warriorz are primed for the third season of the Women's Premier League (WPL) and are finalizing their preparations as the Deepti Sharma-led squad is set to clash with the Gujarat Giants this Sunday. Their second match will see the UP Warriorz face off against the Delhi Capitals on February 19. Both contests are slated to take place at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
Deepti, who is stepping into the role of captain for the first time, expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge. She stated, “I’m genuinely thrilled about this opportunity. Discovering I would be captain was a fantastic moment for me. I’m optimistic that positive outcomes await the UP Warriorz this season.”
The remarkable all-rounder elaborated on the hurdles she anticipates and shared her eagerness for the competition ahead. As India’s leading wicket-taker in women’s T20Is, Deepti noted, “Having captained my state team has already provided me with valuable experience. It’s a bit different from just being a senior player in the squad. While it may be somewhat challenging, I relish tackling challenges at any level. So, I’m looking forward to this season.”
When asked about competing in UP, Deepti responded with enthusiasm, saying that the team eagerly awaits their matches in Lucknow, a venue they have yet to play in.
This season marks the inaugural appearance of the WPL in Lucknow, the home ground of the UP Warriorz. At the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, the UP Warriorz will compete against the Gujarat Giants (March 3), Mumbai Indians (March 6), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (March 8).
“The prospect of playing in Lucknow, at the Ekana Stadium, is incredibly exciting for the UP Warriorz. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to play in front of our local fans. The cricket enthusiasts in Uttar Pradesh have consistently supported us from their homes in the first two seasons, but this time we eagerly anticipate feeling their support live at the stadium in Lucknow. We are counting down to our three upcoming matches there as a team,” Deepti remarked, who was honored with the MVP award in the previous WPL season.
