Varun Tomar Dominates Men's Air Pistol at National Shooting Championship

New Delhi, Jan 5 (NationPress) Reigning Asian champion and multiple ISSF medallist Varun Tomar accomplished a significant double victory by winning both the senior and junior men’s 10m air pistol titles at the 67th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) for pistol events, taking place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range in the national capital.

The 21-year-old Army marksman, who narrowly missed qualification for last year’s Paris Olympics, overcame a sluggish start in the senior final to clinch his first national title, defeating teammate Pradhyumn Singh, who finished just 0.8 points behind. Aakash Bhardwaj from Rajasthan took home the bronze medal.

He experienced a similar slow start in the junior final but quickly made up for it, staying competitive with silver medalist Nikhil Saroha from Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), who led from the beginning. Varun's patience paid off after the 21st shot, as Nikhil faltered with an 8.5, allowing Varun to secure the double victory.

Varun scored 238 in the senior final, but demonstrated greater confidence in the junior final, achieving a score of 246.2. Pradhyumn also had a successful day, earning a bronze medal in the junior men’s air pistol event.

The youth final saw a U.P 1-2 finish as Chirag Sharma defeated the 14-year-old sensation Dev Pratap by 1.3 points after 24 shots, with Chirag finishing at 241.8. Mayank Choudhary from Rajasthan secured the bronze medal.

As per the medal tally at the Pistol nationals, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra are leading with 23, 22, and 13 gold medals, respectively.
