Bhopal, Jan 29 (NationPress) Olympians Prithviraj Tondaiman and Rajeshwari Kumari from Paris have successfully advanced to the finals of the men’s and women’s Trap events, respectively, after securing spots among the top six in the 3rd Digvijay Singh Memorial Shooting Championship for Shotgun competitions held here on Wednesday.

The two athletes reached the finals through different paths: Prithviraj achieved this via a shoot-off, while Rajeshwari clinched the final spot in the tournament taking place at the MP State Academy (MPSA) Shooting range in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. All finals are set to occur on Thursday (January 30).

In the men’s Trap category, Suleman Arsh Elahi led the field of 108 participants with a five-round total of 121, triumphing in a three-way shoot-off for the final rankings. Suleman hit three targets in a row during the shoot-off, while Fahd Sultan from Delhi missed his third shot and Prithviraj from Tamil Nadu missed his second, thereby giving the bib advantage to the Rajasthan shooter for the final. Notably, Lakshay Sheoran, the Asian Games silver medallist from Haryana, also qualified, finishing in fifth place.

In the women’s division, Army shooter Preeti Rajak led with a score of 119, while Rajeshwari, who earned a silver medal in the women's trap event during the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, secured the sixth and final qualifying position.

Defending champions Lakshay Sheoran of Haryana and Bhavya Tripathi of Delhi were the top performers in the men’s and women’s trap shooting finals at the 67th National Shooting Championship Competitions (NSCC) for Shotgun events, which took place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range near New Delhi last week.
