New Delhi, Feb 13 (NationPress) Haryana’s young pistol shooter Suruchi proved her mettle once again by dominating a strong domestic field to secure victory in the women’s 10m air pistol T1 event at the Rifle/Pistol National Selection Trials (Group A), currently taking place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range (DKSSR) on Thursday.

Suruchi has been on a winning streak this season, collecting seven gold medals at the Nationals and a few more at the National Games. She continued her winning momentum at the National Selection Trials.

The other two finals of the day saw the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) T2 and the men’s 10m air pistol T1 titles claimed by the newly crowned champions -- Kiran Ankush Jadhav from the Navy took the 3P title while the Army’s Varun Tomar triumphed in the men’s air pistol.

Another highlight of the day was Manu Bhaker, a double Paris Olympic bronze medalist, who finished third in the women’s air pistol, marking her third podium finish in as many trials over the past week.

Unstoppable Suruchi

The dominance displayed by Suruchi in the women’s air pistol was evident once more at the DKSSR, where her journey began last December. The national champion stormed into the finals, leading the qualification round with an impressive score of 586. Palak, the Asian Games champion, was her closest rival with 584, while Manu secured third place with 581.

Top international shooters Rhythm Sangwan and Sainyam also participated in the final; however, Suruchi appeared unfazed by her rivals as she achieved a remarkable score of 246.5 after 24 shots, just 0.5 points shy of the existing world record.

Sainyam from Chandigarh finished second, trailing nearly five points (241.5) behind Suruchi, while Manu, who fluctuated between fourth and fifth in the early stages, managed to secure a podium finish after 16 shots.

Kiran and Varun Claim Titles
