VHT: Anmolpreet Singh Sets Record for Fastest List A Century by an Indian Batter

Ahmedabad, Dec 21 (NationPress) Punjab's top-order batter Anmolpreet Singh has achieved the remarkable feat of scoring the fastest List A century by an Indian batter, completing his hundred in just 35 balls while chasing 165 against Arunachal Pradesh on the first day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy league stage in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
With this explosive performance, Anmolpreet has eclipsed the previous record held by Yusuf Pathan, who made a century in 40 balls for an Indian batter in List A cricket. Pathan, the former all-rounder for India, set that record during the 2009/10 Vijay Hazare Trophy season playing for Baroda against Maharashtra.
Globally, only Jake Fraser-McGurk from Australia (29 balls) and South Africa's AB de Villiers (31 balls) have managed to score List A centuries faster than Anmolpreet. De Villiers still holds the record for the quickest ODI century, having struck 149 runs off 44 balls for South Africa against the West Indies in Johannesburg in January 2015.
At the Narendra Modi Stadium 'A' ground, Anmolpreet entered the crease at number three after Punjab captain Abhishek Sharma was dismissed in the second over. The right-handed batsman then dominated the bowlers, smashing 12 fours and 9 sixes to finish with an unbeaten 115 off 45 balls, leading Punjab to successfully chase down the 165 runs in just 12.5 overs and securing a nine-wicket victory.
Wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh, who is also Anmolpreet's cousin, contributed an unbeaten 35 runs off 25 balls, as they formed an unbroken 153-run partnership for the second wicket. Anmolpreet was a part of the India U19 team that finished as runners-up in the 2016 Men’s U19 World Cup held in Bangladesh.
He has played for Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL but only accumulated 139 runs in nine innings over four seasons. Anmolpreet was not selected by any of the ten franchises during the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah last month.
